«There is no hood…» Aleister Crowley wrote in Liber Vesta about the Robe of the Probationer. And that is fair for the Probationer who, like a newborn baby, is open to all influences. «The Robe of the magician…» Crowley explains in Liber Aba «… being open at the neck, opposes no obstacles to the passage of this light [from the Lamp which hangs above his head]».
However, and as the aspirant continues his path into the mysteries of the A∴A∴ (Argentium Astrum) so his Robe is modified during each Grade. And where there was no head covering, now there is the need for a hood, for the Neophyte, unlike the Probationer, delves deeper into practice just as the Hermit does from the Thoth Tarot (Atu VI – The Lovers): «Ηe is closely shrouded, as if to signify that the ultimate reason of things lies in a realm beyond manifestation and intellect».
The black Hood for the A∴A∴ initiates has three versions, different from each grade.
For the NEOPHYTE both Robe and Hood are totally unadorned with no other symbols or insignia.
For the ZELATOR, the Hood is with the addition of an Eye in the Triangle.
For the PRACTICUS, the Hood is identical to that of the previous grade, but with the addition of a silver hexagram of 48 rays surrounding the Triangle.
It should be noted here that between the different lines of succession there are certain differences in terms of the coloring and for which of the symbols correspond to each degree.

What distinguishes our version is the use of high-quality fabric (although it can also be made in classic linen), the ability to adapt the Hood to the size of the practitioner, as well as an emphasis on its phallicism. For as we read in the 14th Aethyr (Liber 418), «these adepts seem like Pyramids – their hoods and robes are like Pyramids – It is also a Phallus, which dies itself to communicate Life to others».
– Size of the Hood as seen in the photos is 62cm (the front side, from the forehead down), and 72cm (the back side). We do adjust the circumference based on the size of your head.
– You may choose the fabric of your Hood, between classic linen fabric or marocain fabric – the same fabric used by the Byzantine monks.
