The Enochian Holy Table of John Dee
$323.00 – $825.00
In the magical diaries of Dr. John Dee, it is written that one of the most important tools needed to communicate with angelic forces is a table painted with all the symbols and letters required to form an occult mandala that visualizes the dynamics of cosmic hierarchy, as well as a sacred space suitable for achieving contact with the other side.
As John Dee specifically mentions in ‘Mysteriorum Libri Quinque‘ this very Table is «an Instrument of Conciliation» because «reconciles the human/earthly state with the pure state of the angels… » as Aaron Leitch explains in ‘The Essential Enochian Grimoire‘ (2024), «… it creates a pocket of shared space within which both human and angel can exist and hold a conversation.»
This is the so-called Enochian Holy Table or Table of Practice or Table of the Covenant, and according to the writings of the Elizabethan magician, the angels gave him two versions. The first remains unknown as it was deemed incorrect. From the second version, we have the description and drawing by John Dee himself.
The second Holy Table, crafted by John Dee with his own hands based on the angels’ instructions, has not survived. Today, we know it through the almost photographic depiction (we say ‘almost’ because it differs in some details from Dee’s manuscript description) in Meric Causaubon’s book ‘A True and Faithful Relation of What passed for many Yeers between Dr. John Dee and some spirits‘, published in 1659, just 51 years after Dee’s death. Additionally, we know its form through the writings of the last person to see it with his own eyes, the renowned antiquarian, freemason, and student of alchemy, Elias Ashmole.
Ashmole describes the Table as made of fine-grained and heavy wood, with the Enochian letters painted in red on a gold background, between two blue lines. The lines of the hexagon were gold, and the central square had gold letters and blue lines. Seven sigils (better known as Ensigns of Creation) were arranged on the Table. Those seen by Ashmole were painted directly onto the wood. However, Dee’s instructions indicated that the seven sigils could also be crafted from metal.
Following the angels’ instructions, John Dee’s writings, and contemporary scholars of Enochian mysteries (J. Peterson, A. Leitch, D. Tyson, L.M. Duquette, among others), the artisan of the artistic workshop LOGOS 373 offers to all practitioners of Enochian theurgy, as well as collectors of magical artifacts, John Dee’s Holy Table. The painting of each part of the Table is done by hand, following the design as it appears in Causaubon’s book (as it depicts the very Table Dee himself used and because it was studied and utilized by initiates of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, Aleister Crowley, and others). The table is crafted from natural wood, measuring 60x60x2 cm, and painted black to enhance the sense of antiquity and highlight the 22K gold leaf used wherever gold is prescribed by the instructions.
The seven sigils are made from an alloy of brass and tin, measuring 6.5×6.5 cm.
