Golden Dawn Zelator Sash
$97.00
«I come from between the two Pillars and I seek the light of the Hidden Knowledge in the Name of Adonai…» proclaims the Kerux at the initiation ritual of a Zelator within the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn.
Some believe that zelator is derived from the ancient Egyptian ‘zaruator’, signifying “searcher of Athor”, but its actual greek from ‘ζήλος’ which refers to the passionate willingness of a person for completing a task. In our case, it’s the Great Work that the initiate should complete. And since there is no ending without a beginning, the grade of a Zelator is like a blow to athanor, like the fire that heats the crucible of the alchemist in a path of continuous internal transmutations…
«Receive now the secrets of this Grade…» says the Hierophant «… for the Badge of this Grade, is the sash of the Neophyte with the narrow white border, a red cross within the Triangle, and the number 1 within a circle and 10 within a square, one on each side of the triangle».
A sash is a long strip or loop of cloth worn over one shoulder or round the waist. Its main use was among the military since at least the 16th century, while the sash from shoulder to hip is worn on ceremonial occasions only.
From there to Freemasonry and initiatory orders like the Golden Dawn, a sash is used to declare the grade of a person as it imposes on others those symbols which the person holds closest to his/her heart. In our case for a Golden Dawn’s Zelator, it’s the Cross within the Triangle which represents Life and Light, and thus symbolizing that even in the depths of Darkness and Ignorance, the Light shineth in the Darkness, but the Darkness comprehended it not.
The artistic workshop LOGOS 373, staying true to the tradition of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn offers to the practitioners of the inner mysteries the sash of the Zelator, embroidered with the insignia of the grade and made of high quality black velvet, with white cotton trim placed left and right. According to Regardie notes, the sash should be worn from the left shoulder to the right hip.
Available from our catalogue is also the sash of the Zelator grade with a rose cross inside the white triangle. A very special and rather unique design, as used by the initiated members of Sodalitas Rosae+Crucis & Solis Alati.
The sash is 15cm wide, but we do customise the length based on your measurements.
