Cup Veil of the Gnostic Mass

$37.00

The Cup of the Gnostic Mass or “Pothrion” as the Priest calls it in Greek, like the Grail of Arthur, is an image of the Great Work.
In the Christian Church, both Catholic and Orthodox, this liturgical implement is veiled by a special garment that symbolises that Jesus was unintelligible even after his embodiment (Symeon of Thessalonica, “The Liturgical Commentaries”, 15th century).

In the text of Liber XV, Aleister Crowley does not give clear instructions for the veil. He writes however about the uncovering of the Cup. Also, in chapter VII of Liber ABA we read that «the Magick Cup must have no lid, yet it must be kept veiled most carefully at all times, except when invocation of the Highest is being made».

The artistic workshop LOGOS 373 designed and introduce a special chalice Veil made of red velvet with embroidered isosceles cross (two different designs), suitable to cover the cup all along the rite, until the consecration of the elements takes place.
It is then, when the Priest may remove the Veil, to signify that the sacred mysteries are about to be revealed. Then the People will rejoice with the splendor of the chalice as it is now being exposed while the Priest turns and shows the Cup saying the Greek words TOUTO ‘ESTI TO POTHRION TOU ‘AIMATOS MOU – This is the Cup of my Blood.
