Mass of the Phoenix Robe
$127.00
The Mass of the Phoenix is a Thelemic ritual written by Aleister Crowley in 1913. It became famous as the instructions state that the magician should bare his chest, make the proper sign with a burin, and soak a wafer with the blood coming out from the wound.
Is it actual blood that we are talking about? This question have provoked endless debates between those who support a literal interpretation and those who defend a bloodless understanding of the ritual.
In any case, Liber XLIV or The Mass of the Phoenix as it was first printed in The Book of Lies and later in Liber ABA, does not specify the type of Robe the magician should wear. Nevertheless, practice shows the need for a Robe where the magician will easily bare his chest to make the sign.
The artistic workshop LOGOS 373 introduces a special design of the traditional Tau Robe exclusively for the Mass of the Phoenix, using high quality fabric with satin details on neck and sleeves.
– Size of the Robe as seen in the photos is 1.35cm (from neck to hem).
– You may choose the fabric of your Robe, between classic linen fabric or marocain fabric – the same fabric used by the Byzantine monks.
– We do customize the Robe based on your measurements.
– Instructions on how to take your measurements will be sent to you once you complete your order.
– Find out here the full text of “Liber XLIV” with a special introduction and exegesis on the ritual and its meanings by frater Euandros.

What is Marocain fabric?
Most magic manuals, grimoires, and oral tradition want the magic Robe to be woven from linen. Egyptian mummies were wrapped in linen. The gods themselves – like Hulda – taught people how to grow, spin and weave flax plant into linen cloth.
In some, albeit rather rare cases, magicians and witches use alternative materials such as Shantung silk which is considered the wildest and purest form of silk, so that the material they will use in their work is pure for the best achievement of Kabbalistic correspondence and of hermetic tuning.
After systematic research and experimentation, the artistic workshop LOGOS 373 recommends responsibly yet another fabric suitable for the needs of a modern practitioner for his rituals and initiation rites.
The Marocain fabric is also known here in Greece as “monk” because it is the fabric used by the monks and priests of the Eastern (Byzantine) Church for centuries now.
It is a thin fabric, with a smooth surface and a slight sheen. The Μarocain is also a fabric that is stable, light, cast and wrinkle-free, while creating unique folds, a characteristic that emphasizes the drama in the appearance of the Robe. viscose Marocain.
The feeling it gives when you wear it is airy, thus reinforcing the idea that the Robe is the magical body and extent of the practitioner’s aura.
The type of Marocain our workshop use is that of viscose. It is essentially a synthetic fabric made of natural raw materials. As for the ways to care the garment, the Robe by Marocain fabric it does not wrinkle easily (unlike linen) and it can be washed in the washing machine but not at a very high temperature. If hand washed, the water should be lukewarm and the ironing temperature should be low.
