The actual symbol, Seal or Star of Babalon -which is also the Sigillum Sanctum of the A∴A∴- appeared for the first time in Liber ABA (1911) and again on The Book of Lies (1913). Its inspiration was the ceiling of the Vault of the Adepti, from the 5=6 Grade of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn. For this vault is the cup, a womb into which the Adept offers every drop of his blood (life) in the Mysteries of the Rosy Cross.
